WELCOME TO THE FAMILY

Your New Life in CHRIST

If you've decided to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, CONGRATULATIONS! That's a big deal, and we want to welcome you into the family of God.

Today is worth remembering, and we're here to help as you start a new life full of real connection and hope.
A FRESH START

What just happened?

When you became a Christian, you were saying yes to these five truths:
You were created by God, in His image.
But because of sin, you can't live a perfect life, and that sin has separated you from God.
You asked God to forgive your sins.
You believed that Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection from the dead paid the price for those sins and washed you clean.
You're now born again, which means a fresh start. From here, your life is shaped by a desire to follow God in everything, out of gratitude for all He's done for you.

Five Things Every New Christian Should Know

1. The God of the universe wants a personal, eternal relationship with YOU.

He wanted it badly enough to send His Son, Jesus, to die for YOU.

2. Christianity is more than just a religion. It's a relationship.

The word "religion" tends to bring to mind rules, traditions, and requirements. But when you asked Jesus into your life, you started a relationship with God, and there's nothing more important or more wonderful than that.

3. God will never abandon you.

In your darkest moments, hold on to this: Jesus is walking with you, and nothing can separate you from His love.
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39

4. God is in control.

God created the entire universe, and He knows what He's doing. He loves you, and He's holding you in the palm of His hand. We can trust that He's doing what's best for us and that He'll take care of us.
"They will have no fear of bad news, their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes."
Psalm 112:7–8

5. Faith isn't based on feelings.

Our faith is based on the fact that God came to earth in Jesus, died for our sins, rose again, and still reigns as Lord over all today. Nothing can change that. Not your feelings, not a bad day, not an argument with a friend. Nothing.

It's okay to feel things. God made us as emotional beings, in His image, and you can be honest with Him about how you feel. Just don't let your feelings talk you out of what's true. As strong as they get, and as much as they swing, God's Word is truer than anything you feel or experience. The Bible has stood the test of time and never changes, unlike our feelings.

Questions You Might Be Asking

How do I know I'm really saved?

Being saved was never about feeling a certain way on a certain day. It rests on what Jesus already did, not on what kind of week you're having. The moment you trusted that His death and resurrection covered your sins, God made you His child, and a rough day can't undo that. The Bible says anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, and God doesn't go back on His word. So when doubt shows up, and it will, go back to that promise instead of your mood.

What happens if I sin again?

You will. Becoming a Christian doesn't flip a switch and make you perfect, and God knew that about you before He saved you. What's different now is that your sins are already forgiven through Jesus, so when you mess up you can go straight to Him instead of hiding. He'll forgive you, and He'll keep working on your heart as you go. This is a journey, not a clean record you have to protect on your own, and God is patient with you.

Do I have to go to church now?

You don't earn points with God by showing up to church, but following Jesus was never meant to be a solo thing. A good church surrounds you with people who'll teach you, pray with you, and stick around when life gets heavy. It's one of the main ways God grows new believers. Not sure where to look? Our guide on finding a church is a good place to start.

How do I start reading the Bible?

The Bible's a big book, and you don't have to read it front to back. Start with the Gospel of John. It's all about who Jesus is and why He came. A little each day beats trying to swallow it whole, and it's worth asking God to help you make sense of what you're reading. Our guide on reading the Bible breaks it down if you want a roadmap.

What if I don't feel any different?

Faith isn't built on feelings, so don't worry if there were no fireworks. What changed about you happened the second you trusted Christ, whether your emotions noticed or not. Feelings come and go with whatever's happening that day; God's promises don't move. Keep trusting what's true, and you'll start to see Him at work.

How do I tell my family and friends?

Telling people can feel awkward, especially the ones closest to you who don't believe. Here's the good news: you don't need every answer. Just being honest about what God has done in your life carries weight. Some people will be happy for you, some won't get it yet, so keep loving them either way and let your life do some of the talking. And if you want to talk it through first, a Hope Coach is around anytime.
